We had a blast working with Kristin Heitkotter (hair), Anthony Merante (makeup), and styling team JAK (Jessica and Kelly) and Taylor was super fun and easy to shoot. Nigel Lythgoe
May 23rd, 2012Nigel Lythgoe is amazing. I had the privilege of photographing him while he worked on the sets of American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance. The story just came out in the current issue of The Hollywood Reporter.
During the moment shown here, Nigel was speaking to all the dancers, and they were loving every minute with him!
Communities in Schools
May 4th, 2012In 2011 Mark Leibowitz Photography Inc. partnered with Communities in Schools, the nation’s leading drop-out prevention program, to create an after school program to teach students at Hamilton High School about the art and business of photography. The photo program is now in its second year and on Tuesday we celebrated CIS’s commitment to helping young people realize their goals and reach their potential with a fundraiser. This year we asked our students to create portraits of other CIS students to be displayed during the event; each student photographed one of their peers who then answered questions about success and how CIS has made them successful. In addition to their role as featured artists for the evening, our students ran the photobooth… you can see a few examples after the group photo below!
Mark also donated one of his pieces from his Backstage series to a Charity Buzz auction benefitting CIS. You can bid on the piece here for a chance to own a Mark Leibowitz original AND help CIS… sounds like a good deal to us!

Ian Ruhter: Silver & Light
April 26th, 2012Have you heard about this guy? He’s all over the web right now. And for good reason. Ian Ruhter is a self-taught tintype photographer who has created the largest wet plate print ever, turning the bed of his truck into a custom camera to do the job. Ian realized that the part he missed most when digital technology took over photography was using his hands so he set out to make a camera that no one else had to make images that challenged him to use his hands again. April 19th, 2012When I found out that Chanel Iman was going to be one of our house-mates during Coachella last weekend I knew a fun weekend was brewing. I’ve know Chanel since her first season modeling at the shows. On Sunday, she dressed in an awesome outfit that has exploded across the style blogs.
